Psychiatry Services
The Thomas Jefferson University Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior has a dedicated team of mental health professionals
that supports the Jefferson Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program. They are an integral part of the preoperative evaluation
process and can offer services postoperatively to assist patients with the life changes that occur following weight-loss surgery.
Cardiology Consultants
Jefferson has a nationally renowned team of cardiac specialists. All Jefferson Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program patients
are evaluated by this team of professionals to lower risks of perioperative complications.
Sleep Center
The Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center is one of the first sleep centers to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
(1986) and combines high-quality medical care, state-of-the-art technology and accommodations comparable to a fine hotel.
All Jefferson Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program patients are evaluated by this team of professionals to lower risks
of perioperative complications.
Surgical Critical Care Specialists
For some patients who require extended hospital care, Thomas Jefferson has a Surgical Critical Care Specialist Team of seven
surgical critical care boarded surgeons. This team has a designated Intensivist surgeon assigned to the Surgical Intensive
Care Unit for 12 hours daily with no competing clinical activities. Additionally, a boarded Critical Care Surgeon is available
for consultation and patient evaluation in-house every night. Thomas Jefferson University Hospital exceeds the national “Leapfrog”
criteria for critical care coverage. While most patients will not require the services of these specialists, their around-the-clock
presence provides a safety net to dramatically improve outcomes in the rare instance of post-operative complications.
