About Dr. Ramirez
Dr. Ramirez is a multi-organ transplant surgeon with extensive expertise in deceased and living related kidney and liver transplant,
small-bowel transplant as well as liver and pancreatic resection and surgery of the bile duct.
Dr. Ramirez came to Jefferson from the University of the Philipines - Philipines General Hospital (UP-PGH) Medical Center
of Manila where he served as Chief of the Division of Organ Transplantation in the Department of Surgery and Clinical Associate
Professor of Surgery. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Department of Organ Transplantation at the National Kidney and
Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City (Philippines).
Board certified in Surgery in 1992, Dr. Ramirez was Instructor in Surgery at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute
in Pittsburgh in 1994-95. Subsequently, he accepted a position at the King Fahad National Guard Hospital in Riyadh (Saudi
Arabia) as Consultant Liver Transplant Surgeon and Deputy Director of the Department of Liver Transplantation and Hepato-Biliary
Surgery.
His research interests include non heart-beating donors and steroid-free immunosuppression in transplantation.
Dr. Ramirez is a member of numerous professional and scientific societies including the International Liver Transplant Society,
American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Transplant Society, and Association for Academic Surgery.
He completed a clinical fellowship in multi-organ transplantation at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at the
University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Ramirez has personally participated in over 180 liver transplants, 270 kidney transplants, and authored 30 publications.
