A number of diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can cause kidney problems.  

Some patients have serious kidney disease without any symptoms. Thus, the need for frequent blood and urine tests to check their kidney health.

The signs and symptoms of kidney problems include:

  • Puffy eyes, hands and feet
  • Blood, cloudy or tea-colored urine
  • Foamy urine
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite or weight
  • Persistent, generalized itching

Common Reasons Why People Need a Kidney Transplant

  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension (High blood pressure) that has damaged kidneys
  • Glomerulonephritis (a kidney disorder)
  • Diseases that affect the glomeruli (the blood vessels in the kidneys) such as amyloidosis
