The following is a list of possible medications which may be prescribed to you after your kidney transplant.
Anti-rejection Medications

| Tacrolimus (progaf®, FK506)
|
Used to prevent or treat rejection in people who have received kidney transplants. You may have to take it for the rest of
your kidney's life.

| Rapamycin (Sirolimus, RAPAl\fUNE®)
|
A potent immunosuppressant used to prevent rejection of kidney and pancreas transplant. |
| Cyclosporine (Sandimmune®, Neoral®, Gengraft®,Eon®)
|
NOTE: Sandimmune®, Neoral®, Gengrar:ID and Eon® should not be substituted for one another except under the direction of your
transplant team.

Mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept®, Myfortic, MMF)
|
Given with other medications to help prevent or treat rejection of new kidney. You may have to take it for the rest of your
life.
|
Prednisone (Deltasone®) prednisolone, a related drug
|
Prednisone helps prevent and treat rejection of transplanted kidneys. You may have to take it for the rest of your kidney's
life.
|
| Azathioprine (Imuran®)
|
May be given with other drugs to help prevent rejection of new kidney. You may have to take it for the rest of your kidney's
life.
|
Antithymocyte globulin (Atgam®, Thymoglobulin®, ATG)
|
May be given right after kidney transplant to prevent rejection. It may also be used later to treat rejection. |
| OKT3 (Orthoclone OKT®3, Muromonab-CD3)
|
May be given right after kidney transplant to prevent rejection. It may also be used later on to treat rejection. |
| Daclizumab (Zenapax)
|
Suppresses the immune system and prevents acute rejection. |
|
Basiliximab (Simulect)
|
Suppresses the immume system and prevents rejection. Usually used along with cyclosporine and prednisone. |

Infection-fighting Medications
|
Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole or TMP/SMX (Bactrim®, Septra®, Co-trimoxazole, Cotrim® - also available under other names)
|
Used to prevent and/or treat pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and other infections. Transplant patients have a higher risk of
getting this type of pneumonia because of the drugs taken to avoid rejection, which reduce their body's ability to fight infection.

Valganciclovir (Valcyte)
|
May be given to help prevent or treat infections that are caused by a virus called Cytomegalovirus (CMV). The CMV virus is
present in about 50% of the population. This virus is generally experienced in the form of a common cold or flu and most people
are unaware that they have had this virus.

|
Used to prevent or treat CMV, a viral infection. |
|
|
Used to prevent or treat herpes simplex and shingles. Acyclovir will not get rid of the herpes virus, but it will lessen the
pain and help heal the sores. Acyclovir is also used to prevent and decrease the severity of CMV infection.

Used to treat or prevent fungus infections.

| Clotrimazole (Lotrimin®, Lotrisone®, Mycelex® and Amphotericin)
|
Used to treat or prevent fungus infections |
