Peyronie’s disease is characterized by a plaque or hard lump that forms on the erection tissue of the penis. The plaque often begins as an inflammation that may develop into a fibrous tissue. It may be distressful to both patient and partner.

First described in 1743 by a French surgeon, François de la Peyronie, Peyronie’s disease was originally classified as a form of impotence. Today, we know that although impotence is one factor associated with Peyronie’s disease, it is not always present.

Getting help at Jefferson
The Jefferson Department of Urology is experienced in helping patients with Peyronie’s disease. The overriding goal of any treatment is to help a patient maintain an active sex life. To that end, we offer a variety of treatment options, depending on the needs of each individual patient, including prescription drugs, radiation therapy, and surgery (in fact, our urologists are among the most experienced in the area in the surgical treatment of Peyronie's disease).
