State-of-the-Art Hip Surgeries for Active Adults
Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at 4:30 p.m.
Replay available anytime.

Today, young and active older adults have various orthopedic surgical options available as treatment for hip disease or damage and related activity-constricting pain. Anterior femoroacetabular osteoplasty preserves the entire hip by eliminating pain caused by femoroacetabular impingement. Hip resurfacing, a modified type of hip replacement, preserves the ball and neck of the femur. Total hip replacement is available to patients who may not qualify for other procedures.

Each of these options enables young and physically fit older adults to resume their normal activities and lifestyles completely.
As a special educational offering, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital will provide a real-time webcast demonstration of and discussion about these state-of-the-art procedures for active adults, as well as pain management and post-operative recovery.

Participants will include: William J. Hozack, MD, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College (JMC) of Thomas Jefferson University, and Director of Joint Replacement at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; Matthew Austin, MD, Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at JMC; and Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at JMC and Vice Chair of Clinical Research at the Rothman Institute. Dr. Parvizi co-developed anterior femoroacetabular osteoplasty and is the sole orthopedic surgeon in the Philadelphia region performing it.

You will have the opportunity to ask the physicians questions during the webcast.

Both professionals and the public may view the webcast. Physicians may sign up to receive CME credits for viewing this webcast.

Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
