Burt-Melville
The name of this department was derived from Charlotte (Moore) Burt, ’29, a very dedicated committee member and long-time member of the Women’s Board and Clara Melville, ’10, Director of the School of Nursing from 1915-1937. The Burt-Melville Department supports patients undergoing treatment in the Rehabilitation Department of the hospital.
Martha Jefferson
Each year, the Martha Jefferson Department sponsors two Jewelry Sales annually and the proceeds go to support patient care programs in the hospital. Martha Jefferson also makes a donation to the Department of Psychiatry each year to fulfll an item on their wish list.
Maternity
The oldest Department of the Women’s Board, the Maternity Department was established in 1892. In 1894 a Board of Lady Managers (as the Board was known) furnished a house at 224 South Seventh Street, on Washington Square, for maternity patients. Today, the Maternity Department continues its support of the care of mothers and their newborns at Jefferson.
Penny Wise Gift Shop
Located at 57 East Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, the Pennywise is a Non-Profit Thrift Shop owned and operated by the Women's Board. For more than half a century, Penny Wise has raised millions of dollars and all proceeds go towards patient projects.
